Position: National Legal Manager

Role Overview
The National Legal Manager will be responsible for leading and managing the legal function of the NBFC across India, ensuring full compliance with regulatory, contractual, and statutory requirements. The role involves overseeing litigation, recovery-related legal actions, regulatory advisory, contract management, and governance matters while supporting business growth with strong legal risk management.
The incumbent will act as a strategic partner to business, credit, collections, operations, and compliance teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
- Ensure compliance with RBI regulations applicable to NBFCs (including Fair Practices Code, KYC/AML, outsourcing guidelines, digital lending guidelines, etc.).
- Monitor updates in regulatory frameworks and advise management on legal implications.
- Liaise with regulators, external legal counsel, and authorities when required.
2. Litigation & Recovery Management
- Manage civil, criminal, arbitration, SARFAESI, DRT, and consumer court matters across India.
- Oversee legal recovery processes including Section 138 NI Act cases.
- Coordinate with empanelled advocates and ensure timely case tracking and MIS reporting.
- Develop litigation strategy and control legal costs.
3. Contract Drafting & Documentation
- Draft, vet, and negotiate:
- Loan agreements
- Vendor contracts
- Service level agreements
- Channel partner agreements
- Employment and HR-related documents
- Standardize legal documentation across business verticals.
4. Credit & Business Advisory
- Provide legal opinions on structured lending transactions.
- Support credit teams on documentation risk, collateral structuring, and enforceability.
- Assist in new product launches from a legal standpoint.
5. Governance & Secretarial Coordination
- Support Board matters in coordination with Company Secretary.
- Ensure statutory filings and legal documentation are in order.
- Manage power of attorney, authority matrices, and delegation documentation.
6. Risk Mitigation & Policy Framework
- Identify and mitigate legal and operational risks.
- Develop internal legal SOPs and policy manuals.
- Conduct legal training for internal stakeholders.
7. Team & Vendor Management
- Lead regional legal teams (if applicable).
- Manage empanelment and performance of external law firms.
- Monitor legal MIS, budgets, and reporting dashboards.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualification
- LLB / LLM from a recognized university.
- Enrollment with Bar Council of India (mandatory).
Experience
- 10–15 years of post-qualification experience.
- Mandatory experience in NBFC / Bank / Financial Institution.
- Strong exposure to lending, recovery, litigation, and RBI regulatory framework.
