Job description – Credit Analyst - FIG


Role Overview:

The role oversees the credit evaluation, risk assessment, and portfolio management for lending to Financial Institutions (Banks, NBFCs, HFCs, MFIs, Insurance Companies, and other financial intermediaries). The incumbent will be responsible for setting credit policies, underwriting large exposures, ensuring robust risk management practices, and guiding the business teams in structuring credit solutions aligned with organizational risk appetite.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Credit evaluation and approval process for the FIG portfolio (Banks, NBFCs, HFCs, MFIs, etc.).
  • Assess financial statements, capital adequacy, asset quality, management strength, earnings profile, and liquidity of counterparties.
  • Structure and approve transactions within delegated authority; present larger exposures to Credit Committee/Board.
  • Develop sector-specific risk assessment frameworks and rating models for financial institutions.
  • Monitor portfolio quality, concentration risks, and early warning signals across the FIG book.
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines (RBI, SEBI, IRDA, etc.), and Basel norms.
  • Formulate and update FIG credit policies, risk appetite frameworks, and exposure limits.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of financial sector dynamics, regulatory environment, and credit risks associated with Banks, NBFCs, HFCs, and MFIs.
  • Expertise in credit appraisal, rating methodologies, risk modelling, and structuring.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to interpret financial statements, regulatory filings, and market data.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and influencing skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Qualification & Experience:

  • CA / CFA / MBA (Finance) from a reputed institute.
  • 6–10 years of total experience, with at least 8–10 years in credit risk assessment of financial institutions.
  • Prior experience in FIG credit risk in Banks, NBFCs, Rating Agencies, or Consulting Firms is preferred.
  • Exposure to regulatory frameworks (RBI, Basel norms, etc.) and rating agency methodologies.
